"The world is a beautiful & heartbreaking place" that I think we're all feeling right now. I appreciate how he mentions the remarkable things humans have done (Such as the smallpox vaccine) along with the despicable (Colonialist knowingly infecting natives to kill them) 2/

Amelia is very much a British white woman in the 1880s & she's a prickly thing but then she's also just such a boss?! She reminds me of Dorothy from Golden Girls & the audiobooks narrator has this great transatlantic-ish voice that really works. https://t.co/GB02o4UtrM

Dare circumvents this by making the two girls (Our MC's wards) the weirdest, greatest kids. I'm 65% in & the oldest girl has pickpocketed something at least 3 times and the younger keeps killing her doll (Dropsies, smallpox, leprosy, etc) and holding funerals on a daily basis. 6/

I mean, it's still awkward for me because FOR THE LOVE OF GLOB, MAKE SURE YOU LOCK THE DOOR FIRST but it's a blast. Highly recommend it solely because Dare keeps writing "I'm not being thirsty, I'm a scientist doing science stuff" heroines & it's never not funny. Great stuff. 7/
