This week, I'm knitting a pair of socks using a new method and I'm still in my funk so I don't really have the extra brainwaves to spare. That said, I'm listening to Curse of the Pharaohs, Amelia Peabody #2!

(Lady Baskerville has moved back into the house). Also, for someone who reads a lot of romance, I wasn't expecting Amelia and Emerson to be quite so amorous (*Please read last sentence with transatlantic accent*). These two are absolute horndogs for each other and I love them. 4/

Hopefully, I can get around to reading the last ARC I got from NetGalley, Teslanauts by Matthew Donald but I'm gonna take it easy this week

Oh, and I finished Jove Brand is Near Death! It was a fun pulpy read but definitely has some flaws. The review with TWs is on the blog! 5/6

NetGalley.

The book follows Ken Allen, the 3rd actor to helm the James Bond-esque series. Unfortunately, due to movie rights issues (& the original actor dying), Ken's movie was less Living Daylights and more like if Wolverine Origins had a younger actor in place of Jackman 2/

But it's definitely more spy noir. The narrator has a droll delivery that nails the tone and the book has the trappings of a noir too. The guy with the wasted potential, the lovelorn lady who asks for a favor, the big mistake that's so big that he can't possibly speak aloud 4/

For me, I read Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade. It's the 3rd book in her Spoiler Alert series & focuses on 2 actors (BOTH FAT!) who had a one-night stand only to meet again at the final auditions for a big show Oops 2/

It's a really fun but thoughtful series and the cast is great. Plus, fanfic excerpts and fat leads!! The review for Ship Wrecked is on the blog but I really liked it.

Still, I'm gonna try to get back into it. Last week, I finished Bet On It by Jodie Slaughter. I think I found a new favorite writer. The full review is on the blog but overall, it's just a gentle, sweet romance about two anxious beans trying to take care of themselves 2/

GJ's Review of Olivia Dade's Ship Wrecked

Wow, this really snuck up on me. It feels a bit strange to say this as this is the third book in this series, especially one that I'm already a huge fan of (And pre-ordered) but the deft character work Dade does in this book is just outstanding to me.

Here's my review of Bet On It, which was given to me by NetGalley and St. Martins in exchange for an honest review. These are all my own thoughts and opinions.

First off, Jodie Slaughter, you're an evil genius and I love you.  I will sit here and wait patiently for your next book while complaining about how talented you are.  As a plus-sized Black woman with anxiety in the south (TN to be specific), this book hits so close to home on a lot of fronts. I can't begin to list the number of times I put the book down because I read something that just resonated so much. It also nails the pros and cons of living in a small community.
