WednesdayBookClub: Happy Bloga-versary 4/26/23

Welcome to WednesdayBookClub and HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO THE BLOG!!  Yes, we have past the one-year mark of me realizing that running WednesdayBookClub for an actual 1/3 of my life counts as "A blog" and that I should probably back all of this up before I lose said blog for the third (?) time. (RIP to the GOAT, the Observation. #GoneButNotForgotten)

WednesdayBookClub: 4/19/23

Hello and Welcome to this week's WednesdayBookClub, everyone.  Today's book club has been sponsored by me! Cuz I'm about to plug a personal project in here

A while ago, I wrote a short story for an anthology. It took a little longer than expected but it's coming!! The Kickstarter goes live is May 1st.The theme is Saudade, a word that translates roughly to the feeling of melancholic nostalgia. Here's the link if anyone is curious about it: Saudade Kickstarter. The crew at Critical Mass RW has been amazing and I'm really proud of the work we've done.

Now that I've done that, let's talk about books!!

WednesdayBookClub: 4/12/23

WednesdayBookClub, everyone!! I hope everyone is doing okay today and have had a good book-reading week!

This week, I'm working on some DIY projects at my house, including finally setting up my second monitor on my desk. It's actually inspired me to get back into writing/editing again so yay!

As for reading, I'm back into Amelia Peabody. I'm about 50 percent into it and having a BLAST. Ramses is a chaos gremlin and I love him. I love how Emerson is a sucker for his son while Amelia is just suspicious of him at all times. He's just amazing and these books make me so happy. I don't even really care about the murder because I'm like "How is Ramses gonna nearly kill himself now?". It's great and I can't wait to see him grow up.

I'm also plotting out my next trip to the library. I'll likely pick up some comics but I don't know which ones yet.

What about you? Any good reads this week?

WednesdayBookClub: 04/05/23

Welcome to WednesdayBookClub, gang. Spring is here in my neck of the woods! We have more greenery, some recent tornado warnings and my mom came home and found a frog on the front door. All we need is some lizard sightings and we're set.

GJ's Review of "Play to Win" by Jodie Slaughter

A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for giving me an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are mine.

So last year, I reviewed Slaughter's Bet on It, the book preceding this. It was a book that I connected with quite a bit, especially as a Black fat woman. In the review, I made a not-a-joke about if Miri got her own book, I'd preordered as soon as they dropped the link.

WELP, I guess St. Martin liked my review because I woke up one morning, with the ARC waiting in my email. Screaming and bad karate moves of joy might have happened.

A slightly different take on Book Club

Heads up: This post is gonna talk about grieving and death so if this isn't your jam, please skip to when you see "In Lighter News...
